In this day and age, there seems to be a shift away from organized, institutionalized religion. However, there has been a recent study that shows there has been a durastic rise in peoples belief in religious miracles! In the last twenty years, belief in religious miracles has increased by a whopping 22% ! (Briggs, David) Christianity says that miracles are acts that only God can perform. Miracles usually defy natural law. Baker's Dictionary of the Bible defines a miracle as "an event in the external world brought about by the immediate agency or the simple volition of God."

They generally happen in our external world and leave us wondering about the existence of some sort of higher power. Some says it is God pointing to himself, proving his existence to us human beings on earth.

The Oprah Winfrey show is watched by millions of viewers and she often has guests on the show who personify the Christian idea of a miracle or who have witnissed or been involved in the event of a miracle. The rise in belief in miracles in the last two decades is directly related to The Oprah Winfrey Show. It demonstrates Oprah's religious affiliations and also re-asserts that she is a God like being with her power and influence. It also makes the Oprah Winfrey hour seem like a mass because she has episodes where her intention is to show her audience that miracles exist. She is preaching to them and then they gain faith.
