The Oprah Winfrey show remains the highest ranked talk show in the history of American television. Oprah uses the show to teach, inspire and uplift. For the past twenty-five years her show has been viewed daily by millions. Oprah was dubbed a “spiritual leader” by Christianity Today. She became a kind of ‘priestess’ to an audience of around 22 million predominantly female viewers. (Lyons, Margaret) Oprah is an extremely popular tv show and she gives out a lot of her own wisdom and advice. She is a very compassionate talk-show host.

The Oprah Winfrey show can easily be compared to a Churches mass or religious service. In my experience, having been brought up Catholic, a mass consists of one person (priest) standing before an audience, preaching what he believes in. He shares morals and ethics through stories. He sometimes has guests to come up on the stage to do readings or assist in the rituals.

The Oprah Winfrey show is very much like this. Oprah is generally on the stage by herself before an audience (also millions of those viewing from tv). Each show is generally delivering some sort of inspirational message
. Oprah's main resounding message is that YOU can live your best life now! YOU have the power to change. In a sense, Oprah delivers a mass everytime she hosts her talk show.

Oprah's "Mass"

Scroll to about minute 2:32 onwards to see Oprah express to the world that she is a Christian. She also expresses her openess and respect for all beliefs and talks about how she believes absolutely everyone is a spiritual being. She also attributes all of her success to her belief in god.
